English Exam Strategy

• **Identify / list** – brief; no long analysis • **Explain** – point + how/why • **Analyse** – methods + effects + evidence • **Compare** – links both ways • **Evaluate** – judgement + support • **Write** (section B) – form, audience, purpose

• Know roughly how many minutes per mark (or per section) • Don’t spend half the paper on one 5-mark question • Leave time to check SPaG on writing tasks • If stuck, move on and return later

• Direct response to the question • Relevant short evidence • Clear explanations of effect • Organised writing with accurate sentences • For higher marks: thoughtful overview, not only feature-spotting
