Writing in Welsh for Purpose
Welsh writing tasks reward clear purpose and suitable register. Plan before you write: who is reading, and what must the text achieve?
Form, audience, purpose
• **Form** – e-bost, llythyr, erthygl, blog, adroddiad…
• **Audience** – cyfaill, athro, cyflogwr, darllenwyr papur…
• **Purpose** – inform, persuade, complain, apply, describe
Register: informal with friends; formal with officials and employers.
Planning in Welsh
Jot 3–4 bullet points in Welsh before writing full sentences.
Open with purpose; develop with examples; end with a clear closing (request, summary, or good wishes).
Worked example
Opening a formal complaint email?
Solution: “Anfonaf yr e-bost hwn i gwyno am… / Rwy’n ysgrifennu i fynegi pryder ynghylch…” then state the problem clearly.
Practice questions
1. What three things should you match in a writing task?
2. When is formal register needed?
