Proofreading Welsh Writing
Five quiet minutes of proofreading can raise an accuracy mark. Use a fixed checklist every time.
Checklist
1. Have I answered the task (form + purpose)?
2. Accents on â, ê, î, ô, û where needed
3. Mutations after i / o / yn / fy / y
4. Verb forms consistent with the time frame
5. Full stops and question marks
6. One re-read aloud in your head for missing words
Common traps
• Mixing English word order into Welsh sentences
• Forgetting soft mutation after “i”
• yn vs yn (in) confusion in hasty writing
• Leaving informal slang in a formal letter
Practice questions
1. Name three proofreading checks.
2. Why re-read at the end?
