Cause, Consequence & Significance
History is more than a list of dates. Exam answers need clear links: this led to that *because*…
Causation
Sort causes into types: long-term / short-term; political, economic, social, military.
Show **links** between causes – not a disconnected list.
Identify a main cause if the question asks “main” or “most important”.
Consequence and significance
Consequences = results (short and long term).
Significance = how important / for whom / lasting impact.
Use criteria: depth of change, how many people affected, duration, knock-on effects.
Practice questions
1. How do you avoid a list of causes?
2. Name one way to judge significance.
